Re:Mind also allows the player to use her during the boss fight against Vanitas and Terranort in the Keyblade Graveyard. And Now for Someone Completely Different: Even though Sora is playable through the very end in III, Aqua is also playable in Castle Oblivion during the boss fight against Vanitas.

It is even revealed that time works differently there, with her not realizing how long she has been there in the first place. Not only does she have to deal with the disappointment of never seeing her friends again, but the Realm of Darkness also toys with her on an emotional level, changing around her and forcing her to face her personal demons in the form of her own reflection. In Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage-, we see that Aqua has spent the last ten years doing nothing but fight Heartless and wandering aimlessly through the Realm of Darkness chasing the illusions of Terra and Ventus. And I Must Scream: By the end of Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, Aqua becomes trapped in the Realm of Darkness alone. She temporarily becomes a Dark Action Girl as she fell to darkness while trapped in the Realm of Darkness. Doubles as an Affirmative Action Girl though Kairi had fought in cut-scene form before, and Xion and Larxene had been playable in Days's multiplayer mode, Aqua is the first proper female player character. There's a reason she's the one with the Master rank, after all.

Aqua quickly becomes one of the Guardians of Light’s primary assets and leaders, helping the group locate Ven and providing invaluable support when she takes part in the Second Keyblade War. However, the intervention of Sora and his friends finally freed her from the Realm of Darkness. The pair would come under attack by Xehanort’s Heartless, and Aqua was corrupted and succumbed to darkness and despair. Trapped in the Realm of Darkness with Master Eraqus's Keyblade, she's been looking for a way out for ten years, and has had additional adventures in the darkness before she meets up with Ansem the Wise at the Dark Margin where they both waited together for help to escape.

Terra, in desperation, casts their body into the Realm of Darkness, and Aqua sacrifices her armor and Keyblade to save him. Despite this, she has a very strong sense of justice and a strong desire to do the right things, and she is the overall heroine of Birth by Sleep.īy the end of the game, Aqua duels Xehanort to try and break his control of Terra's body. Specializing in magic instead of physical fighting like Terra, Aqua's promotion above him and Ven and her natural urge to try and guide them leads to their friendship fracturing when she seems to be acting superior to them. She is tasked with looking after Terra to keep him from succumbing to darkness, and to bring Ventus back to the Land of Departure after he runs away from home. The only one of her trio of friends to become a Keyblade Master. When the time is right, you just need to look inside yourself.
